The house was build in the 1900's, not much maintance been done to the house throughout the years, so the home will undergo complete renovation.?While doing demolition, found a paper there dates 1908, so the house had to be?constructed?around that time, I would say around?1900's more like it. The first few images of the existing house.

The existing first floor addition with have a 4th bedroom and there will be a new deck?constructed?in the back of the house.

The garage as you can see will undergo complete demolition and reconstruction, because it's ready to fall down on its own.

I did the house design and this will be the completed project. The Master bedroom with bathroom will be added on the second floor, additional Main bath will be added, and one half bath will be added on the first floor, since there is no bathroom.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) ? The Buffalo Bills have a new backup in Tarvaris Jackson, and they've cut Vince Young in a sudden shuffle of quarterbacks on Monday.

Shortly after announcing they had released Young, the Bills followed up to confirm reports that they had acquired Jackson in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick.

It was a surprising turn of events that came in the final week of the preseason, and after Young struggled in his bid to win the backup job in a 38-7 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday.

"Vince, I don't want to get into what he can do and can't do, it just didn't work out," general manager Buddy Nix said. "We just need to move on and give this guy a try."

As for Jackson, Nix said the Bills showed interest in him once the Seahawks deemed him expendable after selecting rookie third-round draft pick Russell Wilson as their starter on Sunday.

Nix called Jackson a strong-armed quarterback who's accustomed to playing in offenses that feature a quick passing attack such as the Bills.

Nix did acknowledge consistency has at times been an issue with Jackson, who is on his third team in three years.

"Maybe getting in the right place and the right system, he'll blossom," Nix said, noting there's a chance Jackson could play in the Bills (No. 19 in the AP Pro32) preseason finale at Detroit on Thursday.

"He's bounced around a little bit, but who knows, we'll give it a try. We know he's got the ability to do it, and we'll see if he can produce."

Jackson traveled overnight to Buffalo and joined his teammates for practice Monday afternoon. The trade wasn't completed until early Monday morning after the Bills reached a deal with Jackson's agent, Joel Segal, to restructure the final year of the player's contract, according to a person familiar with discussions. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the Bills do not discuss contract talks.

Jackson was scheduled to make $4 million this season, a figure the Bills deemed to be too expensive for a backup player.

Jackson is a seven-year veteran who has gone 17-17 as a starter with Minnesota and Seattle. He had a 7-7 record with the Seahawks last season, but his future was left uncertain after Seattle drafted Wilson and acquired Matt Flynn in free agency this offseason.

Young posted comments on his Twitter account indicating his time in Buffalo was over on Monday morning.

"Respect Bills fans," Young wrote. "I want to thank the Bills organization for the opportunity and with the organization and my teammates good luck this season."

The Bills quickly ran out of patience with Young, who had signed a one-year contract in May to compete with returning backup Tyler Thigpen for the No. 2 job behind starter Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Young had the edge to win the backup job before he struggled on Saturday. He threw two interceptions, the first coming on his first pass attempt, and finished 12 of 26 for 103 yards passing in playing the entire second half.

It was a sudden turn of events for Young, who last week had earned a thumbs-up from quarterbacks coach David Lee.

"I'm really pleased with how much he studied and how he has slowly gotten better and better," Lee had said. "Is he ready for the season? Not yet, but he's getting better every day."

And coach Chan Gailey has maintained there's only room for one backup, because the No. 3 job is going to receiver/wildcat specialist Brad Smith. It's unclear whether the Bills might keep Thigpen to open the season until Jackson can become comfortable with the offense.

For Young, it's the latest blow to what was a once-promising career. After leading Texas to the national championship in 2006, Young was selected third overall in the draft by the Tennessee Titans and was the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

The Titans eventually ran out of patience with Young and released him last summer. Young had a disappointing season as Michael Vick's backup in Philadelphia last year.

Jackson has had an up-and-down career since being selected by Minnesota in the second round of the 2006 draft. He spent five years with the Vikings, including 2007, when he went 8-4 before losing his starting job.

Jackson signed a two-year contract with the Seahawks last year, and was credited for playing a major role in the team's turnaround after a 2-6 start. He had career numbers in completions (271), attempts (450), 3,091 yards passing with 14 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

Alaska, concerned about gold miners' health, to test them for mercury

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - Alaska health officials, concerned about amateur miners seeking riches in a modern-day mini gold rush, plan to test prospectors in the town of Nome for mercury exposure for fear that archaic mining techniques may be inadvertently harming their bodies.

The Bering Sea port town of Nome has been a magnet this summer for gold prospectors, some of them with little experience, in a boom that state officials attribute in part to publicity from Discovery Channel's reality TV show "Bering Sea Gold" and other mining shows set in Alaska.

Modern miners may be putting themselves at risk by trying to recover gold from mercury-heavy sediments on the sea floor, said Ali Hamade, a state environmental public health manager. A century ago, it was common for miners in Nome to use mercury to recover gold. The gold was extracted while the mercury was left behind.

"Now when people look for gold, they could find mercury with it," he said, adding that mercury introduced into the environment from the early 20th century gold rush has sunk down as deep as bedrock and that digging might release the toxic metal.

The planned mercury screening is the latest in a series of government efforts to manage the boom in the remote town of 3,700 people 500 miles northwest of Anchorage that became famous for its raucous, historic gold rush over 100 years ago.

Modern miners in Nome use a variety of methods to draw up sediments that are screened for gold specks. Some dredge with boat-mounted excavators, while others use diving equipment to descend to the sea floor and suck up sediments with hoses or manually scoop them out. Some small-scale miners work with shovels and sluice boxes on the beach at the water's edge.

In liquid form, mercury binds with small gold particles, he said. The historic practice in Nome was for miners to heat mercury-gold mixtures, evaporating the liquid mercury to leave behind pure gold, said Hamade, who works for the state Department of Health and Social Services' epidemiology section.

Hamade said there were anecdotal reports that some modern-day Nome miners were doing the same thing, making use of residual mercury deposited in sediments by gold rush predecessors. The process is as dangerous to today's miners as it was to miners of yore, he said.

"If it's not in a well-ventilated area, they could be exposed to mercury fumes, and those could be toxic," he said. "When it's vapor, when it's fumes, you could inhale it, similar to any gas or dust that you may encounter."

PROSPECTING MINI-BOOM

Mercury is toxic and inhalation can harm nervous, digestive and immune systems, lungs and kidneys, according to the World Health Organization. Inhaled mercury can be fatal, according to the WHO.

Health officials will begin voluntary tests next week to see if traces of mercury are in miners' urine, Hamade said. Elemental mercury is usually excreted after it spreads through the body, he said.

The state received 171 applications so far this year for permits to dredge for gold in the two Nome beach areas designated as recreational mining sites, said Brent Goodrum, director of the Alaska Division of Mining, Land and Water.

That is twice as many permit applications as received in any previous year, he said, adding that applications were capped for the first time this year because the division imposed a deadline, Goodrum said.

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources, which oversees the mining division, has issued numerous notices to gold-seekers, including a sharply worded notice advising that individual miners cannot replicate the "Bering Sea Gold" experience because Discovery Channel is using exploration rights through a state auction.

The show follows the exploits of four crews aboard dredging vessels used for relatively large-scale placer mining operations off Nome's coast. Discovery Channel media officials had no immediate comment.

Nome city officials this year also imposed some new rules for beach activities in response to what a municipal notice said were "several incidents of friction" between gold miners.

The U.S. Coast Guard has been also been trying to educate amateur miners after a miner from Montana drowned last year while dredging Nome waters. The Alaska state troopers and other agencies have also beefed up their services in Nome.

As in historic gold rush days, many would-be miners are failing to find riches, Goodrum said. About half the people who received permits have so far declined to venture out into the Bering Sea surf to dredge up the potentially gold-laden sediments, he said.

"Some folks have gotten out there and realized that it's a lot more challenging than what they saw on the show," he said. "It probably hasn't lived up to everyone's expectations."

The council scheduled the meeting after a small group of residents urged them to consider a third attempt at a civic center capital bond measure during the Aug. 20 council meeting.

The most recent vote on a 30-year bond measure was defeated by city residents on Aug. 7 after Proposition 1 received a 56.8 percent yes vote; the measure needed 60-percent approval to pass. A similar bond vote in November 2010, failed with a 47-percent yes vote.

Councilmembers have sought a new civic center to house city hall offices over the current arrangement of renting second-floor space in the Redstone Building just off of 220th Street and I-5. At the Sept. 8 meeting, the council will discuss whether to submit a bond measure to finance new construction, seek to raise property taxes (a property tax levy lift) to finance continued rental costs at interim City Hall, make cuts in city services and use the financial savings for either new construction or rental costs, or a combination of any of these.

?We have to take a look at different options,? said Councilmember Shaun Richards.

?We might have to do a property tax lid lift, or a bond, or cut services, or change the scope of the project,? added Councilmember Doug McCardle.

The five city residents who spoke at the Aug. 20 council meeting were vocal in their support of seeking voter approval for a new civic center. ?I am here to urge you to form a resolution and go for the capital bond once again,? said Bonnie Mercer, who had served as chairperson for the YES committee for Proposition 1.

?The YES committee is in place and growing and we are committed to seeing this through until the council reaches its goal of rebuilding the downtown,? Mercer added. ?We will be your cheerleaders and help you get the work out once again.?

Molly Luna spoke of the need she sees in creating a civic center in the heart of the city. ?You need a vision, a beacon to rally around, in order to get people to engage, in order to get people to invest in building a community,? she said.

Councilmembers expressed an urgency in studying the options before them. ?Right now we have a lot of momentum going forward,? Councilmember McCardle said. ?The longer we wait, the more that momentum goes away.?

The Sept. 8 special meeting will include an opportunity for public comment, said City Manager John Caulfield.

Lady Gaga SLAMS PETA, Rejects Pressure From "Violent, Abusive, Childish" Group

Earlier this week, PETA slammed Lady Gaga, labeling the star a "turncoat" and demanding to know if some of the furs she's recently worn are real.

Rather than succumb to pressure, Mother Monster hit back!

In response to PETA and fan backlash, Gaga fired off a statement on her website basically saying she has a right to do (and wear) what she wants.

In a well-formulated, refreshingly honest response, Gaga defends herself and calls out the organization for bullying (and flour-bombing Kim Kardashian).

"I want you to know that I care deeply about your feelings and views, and I will always support your philosophies about life," the 26-year-old writes.

"We've been having long and over-arching conversations about society, equality, and politics for the past five years, and we should continue."

However, "I do not however support violent, abusive, and childish campaigns for ANY CAUSE. Particularly one that I respect. 'Animal Rights.'"

"I am choosing not to comment on whether or not the furs I purchase are faux or real because I would think it hypercritical not to acknowledge the python, ostrich, cow hide, leather, lamb, alligator, 'kermit' and not to mention meat, that I have already worn."

This is Meshworm, the latest creation out of MIT. In Meshworm's case, those muscles are actually wires made of a nickel-titanium shape-memory alloy that expands and contracts when heated. The wires are wound around the mesh tube (the mesh and stretch and contract because it's made of interlaced polymers). When the scientists apply an electrical current to different segments of wire, Meshworm propels itself forward.

It's not exactly swift, but Meshworm, which is funded in part by DARPA, has other impressive properties. Since it's mesh, you can step on it or hit it with a hammer, the MIT news release says, and the little bot can still slither away.

Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and the rest of the glittering American basketball team face Spain on Sunday for Olympic gold only hours before London shuts down its successful Summer Games.

"I just want to go out the right way," Bryant said. "You know, go out the right way by winning a gold medal."

When the next Summer Olympics arrive at Rio de Janeiro in 2016, Bryant will be pushing 38. Old for basketball legs, indeed. The Los Angeles Lakers' star turned 30 during his Olympic debut four years ago in Beijing while still in his basketball prime.

BOLT'S BATON

Usain Bolt thought he'd been stymied by another one of the pesky rules at the London Games.

He asked to keep the baton from the world record 4x100 men's relay team Saturday night and was told no by an Olympics officials. The crowd booed, and Bolt walked away disgusted.

Eventually, it was returned.

"I asked and I guess somebody talked to the guy and said you need to give him that back. So I got it," Bolt said.

Bolt said its the first baton he's ever asked for, and he asked his three Jamaican teammates to sign it. They also posed for a picture he plans to frame and hang with the baton.

Bolt said the only other picture he has in his home is of the relay handoff four years ago in Beijing.

Blake said Bolt's desire to get the baton showed his teammates how special the night was to the six-time gold medalist.

"He's not sure about the next Olympics. He say he want a legacy of his own; he want to start his collection," Blake said. "That's why he wanted the baton so much, so all us can sign it and he can frame it."

Thousands of French fans serenaded them with cheers and song, waving flags and applauding a team that advanced to the final in its second Olympic appearance.
