Morocco will host its first English-based medical school by the end of 2013. The new medical school, which will be established thanks to the efforts of a team made up of Moroccans and Canadians, will be established in Rabat, according to a press release received by Morocco World News.
A Delegation composed of General (R) Robert Goodwin III, President of New Westminster College and Chairman of the Board of Governors; Dr. Ahmed S. Badrais, Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors and Chief Financial Officer; Dr. Sa?d Zemmouri, Special Advisor to the Chairman of the Board of Governors, was received on February 15 by Mr. Lahcen Daoudi, Minister of Higher Education, who approved the proposal of establishing the first English-based medical school in Morocco.
?The New Westminster Medical College is an innovative project that will help increase the delivery of the highest standards of modern healthcare and contribute to the promotion of medical tourism for Morocco,? Minister Daoudi was quoted as saying. ?I am pleased to announce that the New Westminster Medical College in Rabat will receive the full support of the Government of Morocco and my Ministry,? he added.
The establishment of the New Westminster Medical College in Morocco is part of a larger initiative that will include the establishment of the New Westminster College Hospital also in Rabat that will be a public-private partnership between New Westminster College and the Bouregreg Valley Development Agency in Rabat, with 60 percent of the project being funded by the government agency.
?The New Westminster College Hospital will be a significant asset to our strategic development plans to serve our city, country and region,? said Dr. Lemghari Essakl, Managing Director of the Bouregreg Valley Development Agency. ?We are pleased to partner with the distinguished leaders affiliated with New Westminster College and have full faith in them as our joint venture partners for this ambitious development project,? he added.
