ITHACA, N.Y. ? The Big Red track and field teams finish their spring trip to California this weekend when they participate in the Spring Break Invitational in Irvine at Anteater Stadium.
?
Cornell is sending many of its top athletes to the west coast to compete against quality opposition from many other schools one week after opening the outdoor season in San Diego.
?
Events in Irvine start on Friday at 3 p.m. PST with the women's hammer throw. Friday will also see the Big Red vie for a victory in the distance races: the 5K and the 3K steeplechase.
?
On Saturday, action kicks off on the field at 10 a.m. with the pole vault and javelin. The long jump and shot put begin half an hour later. On the track, races begin at noon with the 4x100 relays. Events continue through 4:50 p.m. with the 4x400 relays ending the weekend's competition.
?
At San Diego State last weekend, Cornell got a win from Jedidiah Adarquah-Yiadom in the 100-meter dash. The senior captain blitzed across the finish line in 10.83 seconds. Montez Blair also claimed the high jump title. On the women's side, Genna Hartung had a wire-to-wire victory in the 3K steeplechase, setting her best ever time in a season opener.
?
Cornell will return home to Ithaca for its next meet in two weeks when it hosts Penn, Oxford and Cambridge.
