2012 China Open: Li Xuerui outshines Busanan Ongbumrungpan en route to quarter-final round
China?s prime female shuttler Li Xuerui stretched her winning streak in Li Ning China Open and earned the right to be in the top eight players of the tournament on Thursday, November 15, 2012.
World Number two Li overpowered a lower ranked Thai opponent Busanan Ongbumrungpan in second round of this Super Series.
However, the Women's Singles expert had to wait for 51 minutes to read a favourable result of 13-21, 21-13 and 21-12 in the local badminton arena of Shanghai.
Meanwhile, Busanan also earned great deal of respect for putting an honest effort and walked tall despite facing a 1-2 defeat.
She registered her class in very first set of the match when she confounded the native shuttler with a fine blend of power packed smashes and deceiving drop net shots.
Busanan made her intentions clear by clinching three consecutive points in the beginning and mounted pressure by putting a decent total of 7.
She finished first half of the set with a respectable score position of 11 and then capitalised this advantage in the later part of the game.
The Thai campaigner played with great conviction and placed a winning margin of 21-13.
However, it proved her last success in this tournament as the Chinese badminton queen stormed back with a strong reply and tipped the scale in her favour.
The Olympic champion Li Xuerui played with cautious approach in first half of the set and allowed her competitor to stay close on the points table.
Though, she was having a slight edge in 11-10 total but then few uninterrupted rallies made a notable difference in third quarter of the set. She doubled her lead with 17-12 and swept the table with a staggering knock of 21-13.
Li Xuerui kept a low profile in the beginning of third set but she stunned her challenger with an intensive attack after the mid-game break.
She piled up a decent figure of 11 before the interval and then served notice of her supremacy with an emphatic result of 21-12.
Now she is expected to meet either Han Li or Jiang Yanjiao in the quarter-final round of 2012 China Open.
