In a press release ALK has confirmed that their leading GPS Navigation app CoPilot, is coming to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.
The software will be available this summer as a paid version with real time traffic information, and version just for trucks, and a free version which still provides off-line maps and route planning.
Prices for the paid version will be in line with Android and iOS, which clocks in at around ?24.99.
"We have always been a staunch supporter of Microsoft?s mobile solutions," said David Quin, Head of Consumer Applications, ALK Technologies. "CoPilot was specially developed for the Microsoft Pocket PC and opened the way for mobile browsing with Windows Mobile, so we are proud to announce a new app designed for Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8. The range of mobile devices based on Windows is quickly establishing itself as an alternative to Android and iOS systems and provides us with the ideal platform to provide rich browsing experience of each option and in line with the needs of drivers. "
The ALK team will be presenting the software at Mobile World Congress 2013. Ironically it was at Mobile World Congress 2011 when ALK revealed they would not be supporting Windows Phone 7. Given that the software does not appear to be heading to Windows Phone 7 it could be argued they have not changed their minds in the end after all.
