Nissan?s Tire Alert System Saves Fuel
Having placed in the finals of two prestigious auto technology awards, Nissan?s Easy-Fill Tire-Alert system is one of the more unusual ?green? technologies, primarily because it is not directly connected to a car?s engine. However, in a design engineer?s world of aerodynamics and rolling resistance, tire pressure is serious business. Some environmental experts call pressure regulation the unsung hero of green technologies, precisely because it plays such a vital role in fuel efficiency. If tires can be kept at their ideal pressure at all times, mpg numbers can be as much as 10 percent higher than on cars with poorly maintained pressure. For the complete story, see:

Ford Focus Electric Nets Highest NHTSA Safety Rating
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has given the Ford Focus Electric its top safety rating, a five-star designation. NHTSA?s New Car Assessment program measures diverse parameters of vehicle safety, including side-impact and front crash testing. The Focus Electric is the first all-electric model Ford has produced. The car has a unique system of airbags which react to individual passengers and include air vents to prevent collateral injury from the bags themselves. For the complete story, see:

?Superman? Kia Optima Debuts at Chicago Auto Show
At the Chicago Auto Show this week, Kia Motors America showed off its Superman-themed Optima, which is a rare combination of serious artwork and car design. The Superman logo and colors seem to literally cover the vehicle and create an overall surrealistic impression. Kia unveiled five other DC Entertainment cars last year. The Superman Optima is the sixth ?Justice League? car to be shown. DC and Kia are working together on a charitable drive for famine and drought relief. Kia has not specified exactly when or where the next two models will be shown. For the complete story, see:
